A simple cup of tea – one of the world’s most widely consumed beverages – may contain billions of microscopic plastic particles released from tea bags during brewing, according to new scientific research. The findings add to growing concerns about the hidden presence of microplastics and nanoplastics in everyday foods and drinks.
Researchers studying common commercial tea bags found that certain types can release enormous quantities of plastic fragments when steeped in hot water. The discovery highlights a little-known source of plastic exposure that could affect millions of daily tea drinkers around the globe.
Tea Bags and Hidden Plastics
